For the Dinka cattle are the bases for all wealth and central to their spiritual life. Dowries are paid in cattle usually 100 head for a wife. Young boys sleep with the cattle to guard them against thieves and Lions. In times of pressure from other clans and tribes, the cattle are guarded with AKs. cattle rustling is common. Songs are composed of their favorite bull. Large barns are built for the cattle in the wet season
