Overview

Mount Kenyeti, in the Imatong Forest Reserve, is the highest mountain in South Sudan at 3187 meters (10,456 feet). The Imatong Forest is unlike anywhere else in South Sudan with its semi-tropical montane forests. This safari is for the person who can hike and carry a backpack of their clothes and bedding. We provide two base camps with cooks & tents

 

Tips

Use of SAT phone charges will apply per minute. The base camps will have SAT phones as well as your guide.

You need to bring your own backpack and bedding (sleeping bag and pad) for the nights

Bring a small flashlight for the nights

Bring good broken-in walking boots or shoes with tread

A change of good boot socks for each day walking.

Tour Plan

Day 1
Arrive in Juba, night in the hotel.
Day 2
Leave early morning for Torit, 190 miles to the east, eat a picnic lunch.

Then drive south 60 kilometers to Katire, a former colonial logging camp. Here base camp 1 was created the day before by our crew, with tents, cook, showers, toilets. Here you can leave extra clothes and other items to reduce your backpack weight.

Day 3
Depart after breakfast with local guides.

Arrive before dark at base camp 2 created the day before by our crew. This is more of a fly camp with rain tarps, cook.

Day 4
Depart after breakfast

Base camp 2 crew and cook hiking with you. Stop in the late afternoon and build a camp for the night.

Day 5
Depart after breakfast and reach the summit by midday

Start down the mountain and reach the location of base camp 2 that has been moved down the mountain by our crew.

Day 6
Depart after breakfast with the crew of camp 2 following down the mountain.

Reach base camp 1 at Katire where the crew will have dinner and cold drinks waiting.

Day 7
After breakfast drives back to Juba and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 8
Fly out of Juba for home
